The gap where value evaporates: Reflections on 3 years of 20oneC

By Bram Steenhoek

As we approach the end of the year, we enter a natural period of reflection. This week also marks three years of building 20oneC. It feels like the right time to share the journey of why we built this company, where we focus, and how we help clients extract value from their data.

This is the start of a series I will be sharing over the coming months.

Today, I want to address a pattern I see repeating in every boardroom, every strategy session, and every quarterly review.

A CMO presents their vision: data-driven personalization to transform customer relationships. The board approves. Teams rally. Vendors are engaged. Yet, six months later, that same CMO is explaining why conversion rates remain flat, why the CDP integration is delayed, and why a sophisticated mar-tech stack is generating reports but not results.

This isn’t incompetence. It is structural.

I witnessed this firsthand—brilliant strategies dying in translation and powerful tools producing noise instead of value. I saw marketing leaders with vision, budget, and talent who were unable to bridge the gap between strategic intent and operational reality.

The insight that sparked 20oneC was simple but profound: The space between strategy and execution isn’t just an operational challenge, it’s where value evaporates. Every organization has this gap. Most have accepted it as inevitable.

We haven’t.

We built 20oneC to own that gap entirely. We aren’t here to deliver another framework or implement another platform; we are here to translate ambition into achievement. We embed ourselves within client organizations, sharing accountability for outcomes. We connect systems not designed to talk to each other. We align teams that have never shared metrics and turn theoretical possibilities into operational realities.

We extensively tested our new proposition. The results have validated our hypothesis. Yet, explaining our business model to those who haven’t experienced it remains complex. How do you articulate the difference between discussing transformation and actually achieving it?

In my next posts, I will share how we evolved from identifying this gap to systematically closing it, transforming marketing’s most persistent weakness into a sustainable competitive advantage.
