The hardest question in many board meetings isn’t about marketing strategy, but how media, CRM, loyalty and personalisation programs actually drive growth.
We recently worked with a company facing this exact challenge. Budgets were spread, campaigns were running, and dashboards were everywhere. Every team showed results: acquisition had volume, CRM had engagement, and loyalty had retention.
But when asked, “What is marketing actually contributing to growth?” The room went quiet. No one had a clear view of spend. Costs were inconsistently recorded, often confused with production budgets instead of being separated into media and production. The result? Nearly €1 million in spend that couldn’t be traced.
The budget allocated to channels which are not measurable in any way was 25% of the total spent, no accountability, just gut feeling.
The issue wasn’t a lack of data, it was a lack of connection between teams, datasets and decisions.
Many organizations get stuck adding more reports and channel-specific breakdowns, dashboards per channel, campaign reports per team, performance views that all tell a different part of the story. But if you can’t connect those pieces, you don’t have a clear story, you have fragments.
We took a different approach. We integrated all data into one model, not to report more, but to understand contribution. We identified which channels drive incremental revenue and made it actionable, by testing budget shifts in controlled, bite-sized increments with clear control groups, proving impact before scaling and making every decision defensible at board level.
That changed the conversation. Instead of explaining activities, the team could justify decisions. Instead of defending budgets, they could prove delivery. Teams moved away from siloed optimization toward one shared logic on what drives growth.
If you had to walk into your next board meeting and explain marketing’s impact on profit in one clear story… could you?
